Ama Dablam Rapid Ascent™ Update

After a day exploring Kathmandu, Alpenglow’s Ama Dablam Rapid Ascent™ team flew from KTM (Kathmandu Airport) to Namche Bazaar via helicopter. After sorting equipment that will be portered to basecamp, the team began their trek to Phortse. The 5 hr trek through the Khumbu gave the team time to become acquainted, and they settled into their evening accommodations, a local Tea House in Phortse.

Best seat in the house. The team got an incredible view of the mountains on their heli ride from KTM (Kathmandu Airport) to Namche Bazaar via helicopter.

On a traditional Ama Dablam expedition, teams arrive in Phortse on their 6th day in Nepal. This Rapid Ascent™ trip has the team in Phortse on Day 3, already proving why Alpenglow’s pre-acclimatization and advanced logistics are advantageous. When the team awakes tomorrow morning, they will continue on to Ama Dablam Basecamp, covering just over 5 miles and gaining 2,500’ in elevation. This trek to base camp should take approximately 6 hours, after which teams will settle into their new home at 15,000’ (4,570m).

Soon the team will be settling into their new home at 15,000’ (4,570m).

Meanwhile, on the mountain, Alpenglow’s Sherpa team continues to prepare for the climbers, while other Ama Dablam teams make their push. Alpenglow operations staff has been eyeing the weather and making plans for a short rotation before their push for the summit.

Stay tuned as the team positions for their push!
