Climb Kilimanjaro with Guide Will Sperry

Alpenglow is back climbing in Africa once again and we’re headed up Kilimajaro! Tahoe guide Will Sperry is co-guiding alongside our Kilimanjaro mountain guides. Here’s everything that has happened in Tanzania so far during our July 2019 Expedition.

Hiking with Leonard, a local naturalist, near Arusha National Park

Sunday, July 7:

“Went for a great hike with Leonard, a local naturalist today. We explored a local neighborhood and hiked close to the Arusha national park. Seeing into the life of the rural Tanzanian people, the land they have worked, and the rich soil they cultivate and call home.”

“Then we had a delicious lunch at the Arusha Villa when we returned.”

Monday, July 8:

“We received the rest of the team last night and have all 13 ready to head to Kili! We had a relaxing morning today getting to know each other letting people shake off jet lag. Then we all went to the cultural heritage center for some lunch and souvenirs. After we met with our 2 lead guides Ben & Hussain to tall about itinerary & gear. With a team dinner to cap off the evening. Psyche is high and the team is getting along great so far. 🤘”

“All loaded up and ready to send!”

Tuesday, July 9: “Group made it to Simba Camp without issue! The team is strong and we had a great first dinner on the mountain. Everyone is psyched for our big hike tomorrow.”

The trek begins!

Today’s update (7/11/19 4:30PDT) came via inReach satellite phone: the Team is currently at Mawenzi Tarn camp and will be moving to Kibo camp tonight (our time).

Stay tuned for updates. After a week of climbing, our team hopes to summit Kilimanjaro, one of the famed seven summits of the world. After the climb, the team will treat themselves to some well-served R&R by spending a few days on an  African safari!
