Weekend Update From Expedition Team in Nepal

Text and photos: Chad Peele

Phortse, NepalDay 6: “Today we woke to our first blue bird day and saw the full majesty of this valley for the first time. After apple pancakes (it’s become a team favorite!) and French pressed coffee we stripped down to shorts and a single layer on top and began our sunny trek into the valley. Right out of the gate, the views were stunning and nonstop as we traversed a rolling trail to Mong-La for a break, photos and tea.

After this well-deserved break we dropped a lot of elevation only to hike back up into Phortse…yeah, that hill and elevation gain sucked. At least at the top we literally walked into Phortse and followed an easy path to our Sirdar’s (Panuru) family guest house. The town of Phortse is home to our Sherpa staff. After a rest and a quick tour of the local monastery we had a siesta and now we’re having apps and waiting for another amazing meal! Life is good my friends!”

Day 7: “We had phenomenal weather leaving Phortse while marveling at the scenery. We literally could not take a bad picture today! Walking thru Pangboche we were able to visit Lama Geshe for a ceremony before continuing on the trail.

on top of Chukung Ri, NepalCurrently we are resting, reading and scrolling the internet as we wait for our dinner at the Sonam friendship lodge in Dingboche. Tomorrow we will wake up early and do a quick acclimatization trek up Chukung Ri (17,600′ / 5365m). Things are good and we are psyched to be getting closer to Ama Dablam!”
