Day 2 in the Cordillera Huayhuash with Eddie Bauer

Adrian Ballinger sent in this report from day 2 in the Cordillera Huayhuash with the Eddie Bauer team.

“Another 15 miles plus our first 16,000 foot pass. Amazing views of the east faces of Yerupaja, Siula Grande, Jarishanka and Trapecio. Now we’ve circled around from the east side of the range to the south, and we are camped off the normal route at 15,300 feet right below the amazing south face of Trapecio.”

Here’s a photo essay from day 2. All photos submitted by Adrian Ballinger:

Eddie Bauer in the Cordillera Huayhuash

Team of Eddie Bauer athletes is trekking in the Huayhuash scouting some ski lines…

When Eddie Bauer calls and says “hey Adrian, let’s take a team on a beautiful trek… no skiing, no climbing, just a beautiful trek” you say yes. We’ve got a team of 3 athletes (Adrian Ballinger, Drew Tabke and Lysey Dyer) out on the circuit hiking their brains out at high altitude taking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful part of the world.

Yesterday they were on trail for 7 hours and 45 minutes, all above 13,000′ / 3962m including 2 passes over 15,000′…

Ama Dablam Expedition Team in Base Camp

Day 10: “Team hiked up to Yak Camp (17,000′ / 5182m) today depositing a small amount of high camp/summit gear. While hiking up in the sunshine we got word that the ropes had been finally fixed to the summit! This is great news and perfect timing for our group as there are quite a few teams that have been sitting and waiting for the route to be completed.

Basically, I’m all about letting the masses move forward, clear the ropes and clean the route! The weather pattern has been glorious in the mornings…

Weekend Update From Expedition Team in Nepal

Day 6: “Today we woke to our first blue bird day and saw the full majesty of this valley for the first time. After apple pancakes (it’s become a team favorite!) and French pressed coffee we stripped down to shorts and a single layer on top and began our sunny trek into the valley. Right out of the gate, the views were stunning and nonstop as we traversed a rolling trail to Mong-La for a break, photos and tea.

After this well-deserved break we dropped a lot of elevation only to hike back up into Phortse…yeah,…

” Today after omelettes, french press coffee and apple pancakes, the team made quick work of the steep hike into Namche Bazaar crushing all 4 miles and 2k elevation in under 4 hours! #strong!
The afternoon was filled with hot showers, relaxation and enjoying the magnificent views of this incredible village.

Tomorrow we plan on doing a day hike to hopefully get some better views of the greater peaks of the Himalayas including Everest! After that we plan on finishing our day with more culture and…

Expedition Team Update From Kathmandu

Day 2:  ” Even though we are on the “Ama Dablam” expedition there is way more to experience than just the mountain!

Today our team rallied the chaotic bustling roads of Kathmandu and visited several historical temples seeing numerous amazing, odd and beautiful aspects of this culture rich city. Monkeys, holy men, cremation pyres and a kazillion residents stuffed inside tuk tuks and weaving thru on motor bikes. As much as I love the beauty of the Khumbu valley, Kathmandu is a city of wonder and excitement unmatched in my other travels.

2016 Ama Dablam and Everest Base Camp Expedition Has Commenced

Text and photos: Chad Peele

” It’s official! Alpenglow Expedition’s 2016 Ama Dablam program is now under way. My jetlag is slowly subsiding and all team members including our Everest Base Camp Trekkers have safely arrived in Kathmandu. Today I finalized our last trip logistics by online chatting with our Sirdir Dorji who is currently in his home village of Phortse (gotta love technology right?!). We talked weather, conditions and confirmed that the proper gear and teammates are in position for a smooth transition for our arrival into Lukla and Ama base camp.

Personally, I’m super stoked to get back…

Everest Base Camp Trek: What to Expect

Trekking to Everest Base Camp through the Khumbu Valley “is one of the most historic, culturally-rich treks in the world” explains Alpenglow guide Brian Warren. Mount Everest has long captured imaginations, but when traveling in the Khumbu Valley, it becomes apparent that it’s not only Everest that makes this place so special but the greater picture of the Himalayan mountain range, including the history, people who live there, and the climbers who visit.

When trekking in the Khumbu with Alpenglow Expeditions, you become part of the mountain enthusiast community that migrates to this region in order to pursue their dreams.…
