First Word from Manaslu

Two mountaineers navigating a glacier on a Gasherbrum II Expedition

Although the team arrived three days ago in the village of Samagaon (11,700′) via a Kawasaki five-seater heli, they have yet to see their objective mountain because of monsoon weather. They are acclimatizing well with day hikes, getting ready for the wet clouds to dissipate. Everyone is healthy and strong and will begin heading up to basecamp (15,700′) after a couple more days down low. Porters hauled about 60 loads up today and 125 more will be hauled over the next two days. I’ll keep you posted with all the information I receive. In the meantime, let’s all hope that the rainy season ends soon!
