We believe that education is a key part of developing a competent and safe outdoor community, and we’ve built out our rock climbing courses so that you can be confident in your skills and ability to climb outside when you’re not being guided. From anchor building and learning to lead outside, to mulit-pitch systems, these courses will give you all the skills you need to be able to adventure in the vertical rock world.
Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing
This one day course will introduce you to to joys of rock climbing on beautiful Donner Summit, California, and give you important foundational skills to begin your rock climbing career. Whether you’re a seasoned gym climber looking to get the first glimpse of pulling down under the sun, or you’re completely new to the sport of rock climbing, this course sets you up with the proper fundamentals to begin challenging yourself safely on any crag.
Rock Anchoring & Gear Placement
Become familiar with equalization principles and protection used in rock climbing. Learn how to safely set up your own top-rope systems, perform a top-belay, create a master point, how to build trad anchors and properly utilize natural anchors, and how to place trad gear while climbing. This course is intended to leave you with the skills necessary to become more self-sufficient on the rock.
Learn to Lead
Once you have become familiar and comfortable with gear placement, anchor building and have a solid foundation of climbing movement, the next big step is leading your own pitches. For the first time, you will find yourself without the safety of a top rope. It is of paramount importance to keep a high margin of safety when learning to lead climb. The best way to do that is with the help of a professional guide. These skills will propel you through your entire climbing career, and learning the correct techniques the first time will ensure you start off on the right track.
Intro to Multi-Pitch Climbing
This private multi-pitch climbing course with Alpenglow allows you to pick the date for your day with one of our AMGA certified rock guides. The day will take you beyond the limitations of a top rope, and onto the faces of bigger crags and mountains. Taking the movement and technical skills you have learned in introductory classes or experiences, we will leave the ground far behind, and show you how the multi pitch system works.
Self Rescue for Rock Climbers
This course includes technical systems review, including belaying off the anchor, belay escapes and rope ascending and descending. This skills day will teach you the basic theory and techniques needed to confront these problems in a calm, systematic manner. This one day skills course will teach you how to use the equipment you already are carrying, to improvise rescue systems and get you and your team out of a jam. Every climber needs to know these skills!
