California is the perfect place for a big mountain adventure in the United States.
From single-day mountaineering courses in Lake Tahoe to multi-day ski mountaineering trips on Mount Shasta, our Intro to Mountaineering program is designed to give your team a full-value alpine climbing experience here in the incredible mountains of California.
Intro to Mountaineering and Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue
These Introduction to Mountaineering and the Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue courses, based in the Sierra Nevada mountains and taught by our Mount Shasta guides, are designed to prepare aspiring mountaineers for the glaciated, high-altitude peaks they dream of climbing around the world. While these skills can be developed on one of our International Climbing Schools (Ecuador Climbing School and Peru Climbing School), building a solid mountaineering foundation here in California sets climbers up for even more success as they add the factors of high altitude and expedition climbing to their climbing experience. These one-day courses can be taken back to back in a weekend to round out the learning experience and make the biggest step forward in your mountaineering experience.
Mount Shasta courses, climbs, and ski mountaineering.
Mount Shasta, a magnificent stratovolcano at the southern end of the Cascade Range and the jewel of Northern California at 14,179 ft (4322m), is the perfect stepping stone to level up from your local mountains and prepare for high-altitude, international expeditions.
A Mount Shasta climb, ski trip, or mountaineering school will help you build a solid foundation for future mountaineering endeavors. With four different trip options varying in length, route, and skills training, there’s something for everyone looking for an epic adventure on this iconic California peak.
