Western States Half Day Hike

IMPORTANT DETAILS: 

– Each guide can take 8 hikers, for groups larger than 8, you will be assigned an additional guide.
– Poles, backpack, and guide service are included.
– We do NOT rent out hiking boots, so it is important you bring your own pair of appropriate shoes to the office the day of your tour. If you aren’t sure if your shoes work, give the office a call! We’d be happy to help with any and all gear-related questions.
– Your guide will have a cold beverage & snacks, but make sure to bring lunch & extra snacks.
– Picnic lunch add-on is available for ($25-50) per person
– Photography Package available for ($) per group
– Your guide will send a pin to the exact meeting location prior to your tour.

WHAT TO WEAR:

Come prepared with a small backpack so you can carry extra layers, snacks, and at least a 1-liter water bottle.

We recommend dressing in layers so you can adjust as the pace and temperature change. A non-cotton base layer works best, paired with a breathable insulating mid-layer and a weather-resistant shell jacket. Conditions at Donner Pass can shift quickly, especially with wind exposure along the ridge and near the tunnels.

For pants, choose durable hiking pants or softshell layers. In cooler conditions, adding a non-cotton base layer underneath can make a big difference. Footwear should be comfortable, broken-in hiking shoes or boots with good traction.

Eye protection is important. Sunglasses are usually the best option for reducing glare off the granite and lake below. A hat or cap and a lightweight buff or neck gaiter round things out.
