Western States Half Day Hike

Western States Half Day Hike

Beyond its natural beauty, the trail carries deep historical significance. Originally used by Native American tribes and later by Gold Rush travelers, it became a critical route connecting California’s mining regions to Nevada. Today, it’s best known as the starting point of the legendary Western States Endurance Run, widely considered one of the most demanding trail races in the world.
For modern hikers and trail runners, the Olympic Valley section offers a mix of steep climbs, flowing singletrack, and panoramic views—making it an ideal option for those looking to experience a piece of Sierra history while pushing into classic mountain terrain.
Experience Olympic Valley with context. Join a half-day hike on the Western States Trail, guided by a professional Alpenglow guide who will lead you through the terrain while sharing the deeper history behind it.
At key stopping points, your guide will slow things down to take in the setting, answer questions, and give space to the landscape. As you move through the route, you will see how each layer of history builds on the last before returning to the trailhead with a clear understanding of why this area matters.
