An Evening with Adrian Ballinger and Hari Mix

April 30th at 6pm
WSA: 161 Water St, New York, NY
We’re stoked to invite you to an intimate evening of storytelling, sports science, and mountain culture with two of the most accomplished mountaineers in the Alpenglow Expeditions community and on the planet.
On April 30th at 6pm, Alpenglow founder Adrian Ballinger and Alpenglow team member Hari Mix are coming together in New York City for a conversation about climbing the tallest mountains on the planet, the ethics of climbing Mount Everest, training, nutrition, and the future of human performance in the mountains.
Adrian and Hari have both made summits of 8,000m peaks without the use of supplemental oxygen, and have each delivered performances in the mountains that are on the cutting edge of what’s humanly possible.
This is an intimate gathering with only 30 spots, so RSVP soon.
RSVP by April 10th to griffin@alpenglowexpeditions.com
Adrian Ballinger
Adrian is one of the world’s most accomplished high-altitude mountaineers and the founder of Alpenglow Expeditions. Over the past 25 years, he has built a career defined by pushing what’s possible in the big mountains — as both an athlete and a guide.
As a climber, Adrian has made 20 successful summits of 8,000-meter peaks, including 10 ascents of Everest. He’s also summited Everest and K2 without the use of supplemental oxygen, making him just the fourth American to achieve that distinction. He is the only American athlete to have completed ski descents from four 8,000-meter peaks, including pioneering the first ski descents of Manaslu and Makalu, the 8th and 5th tallest mountains on earth.
As a guide, Adrian has led over 150 international expeditions. He’s known for pioneering Rapid Ascent™ — an evidence-based pre-acclimatization approach using hypoxic tents that shortens expedition timelines while improving summit success rates — and for helping drive higher ethical and safety standards across the commercial guiding industry.
He founded Alpenglow Expeditions in 2004 out of Lake Tahoe, California, and has grown it into one of the most respected expedition companies in the world.
Hari Mix
Hari Mix is a scientist, alpinist, and former elite runner whose career has taken him from the NCAA to the world’s highest mountains — and now to the cutting edge of human performance science.
As an undergraduate at Stanford, Hari was an NCAA Division I All-American in the 5,000m and ranked among the top 30 distance runners in the US at 10,000m, logging personal bests of 13:56 and 28:50. After university, Hari pivoted from running to alpinism and has climbed all over the world. He’s summited G2, Broad Peak, and Manaslu without the use of supplemental oxygen.
That relentless curiosity about the body under extreme stress led Hari to a new frontier. While preparing to climb Manaslu — the world’s 8th highest mountain — he partnered with a metabolism expert to use doubly labeled water to track his energy expenditure, with striking results. The experience convinced him that precise metabolic measurement could change how athletes fuel and train. In 2022, he co-founded Calorify, bringing what was previously a laboratory-only research method to athletes, sports teams, and healthcare providers for the first time.
Now Hari runs the M Labs at Maurten, helping to develop fueling systems for athletes in hopes of continuing to push the limits of human performance in the mountains.
