Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic candlelit dinners or bouquets of roses. At Alpenglow Expeditions, we’ve seen firsthand how the mountains have a unique way of connecting people—romantically, platonically, and everything in between. There’s something about stepping into the high alpine, with thin air and endless horizons, that brings people together in ways everyday life rarely does.

We’ve seen lifelong friendships spark during ski descents of Mt. Shasta and relationships deepen while navigating the technical terrain of the Tahoe Via Ferrata. Climbing is a partnership. You’re literally tied together by a rope, trusting one another with your safety. That trust, built on the side of a mountain, carries a different weight—and often a more profound bond—than many relationships grounded in day-to-day routines.

A Relationship with the Mountains

But it’s not just about the person at the other end of your rope. It’s also about the connection to the mountains themselves. Standing beneath the towering peaks of the Himalaya or skiing through Japan’s deep powder forests, you develop a relationship with the landscapes you move through. This Valentine’s Day, we celebrate those connections. The couples who met on an Ecuador Climbing School expedition and later tied the knot. The father and daughter who summited Kilimanjaro and came back with stories that will last generations.
