THE HUTS
The backcountry huts that the Truckee Donner Land Trust has built at Frog Lake are a step up from most other huts in the west, with great amenities and a warm, homey feel.
Amenities will include: Hot and cold running water, flush toilets, propane heat to keep you warm in your hut, lights, outlets for charging phones, a racks for drying all of your gear. The commercial-grade kitchen will be equipped with everything that you might need- pots, pans, a dutch oven, a 6 burner stove with a griddle and large ovens. Plates, cups, bowls, and utensils will also be provided, so you can leave your camp setup at home.
The nearly 100 year old Eschenbach Stone House, where the kitchen is located, has been renovated as a lively gathering spot for guests to meet and socialize. There will be a hutmaster on site to welcome you.
THE TERRAIN
Situated on the east side of Castle Peak, Frog lake sits in a glacial cirque that has formed a beautiful hanging valley with the 1,000 foot tall Frog Lake Cliffs perched at it’s head.
You can ski all day on anything from the steep Frog Lake chutes to wide open bowls, and beautiful couloirs to epic tree skiing. There are awesome lines on all aspects, and with multiple days to explore and base out of Frog Lake’s new huts, you’re bound to find tons of great turns.
Our guides know where to find the best snow on any given day, and will make sure to put you in the right place at the right time!
ACCESS AND THE TRUCKEE-DONNER LAND TRUST
In June of 2020, our friends at the Truckee-Donner Land Trust secured nearly 3,000 acres of land, including Frog Lake, Red Mountain and Carpenter Ridge. It had been privately owned for nearly a century, and is now protected and opened up for responsible public use.
This acquisition, in combination with other lands that they have secured, will protect upland water sources and provide connected habitat for threatened and endangered species, as well as incredible terrain for us to go shred! The folks at Truckee-Donner Land Trust are true stewards of the land, and we believe in what they do.
