Leave the crowds behind in the most-visited national park in the U.S. See Yosemite the way it used to be.

Backpacking in Yosemite means trading pavement for granite slabs, cell service for rivers and ridgelines, and crowds for quiet nights under the stars. With a backpack on and a few days of disconnect ahead of you, the park opens up in a whole new way—raw, remote, and unforgettable.

Our guided backpacking trips are designed to help you access Yosemite’s backcountry without worrying about logistics, permits, or getting lost. We provide the gear, food, and professional guidance—you show up ready to hike, learn, and soak it all in.

What You’ll Learn and Experience

Backcountry Travel Skills

Our guides teach fundamental backpacking techniques along the way—how to pack efficiently, treat water, travel safely, and manage a campsite. Whether you’re a beginner or brushing up for future solo trips, you’ll walk away more confident in your outdoor skills.

Natural History and Park Insight

Each day on trail is a deep dive into Yosemite’s geology, ecosystems, and history. Learn how glaciers carved the valleys, how the Tuolumne River shaped its canyon, and why this landscape continues to draw people from around the world.

Scenic Immersion

Backpacking lets you see the side of Yosemite that day hikers never reach. From high ridgelines to deep river valleys, you’ll camp in spots most visitors will never know exist—and wake up to granite walls and quiet forest all around you.

Hetch Hetchy Reservoir Loop

This 5-day loop begins in the northwest corner of Yosemite at Hetch Hetchy—one of the park’s most dramatic and least-traveled entry points into the backcountry. From the trailhead, we move along the reservoir beneath massive granite walls, passing waterfalls spilling straight into the valley. The air smells of incense cedar, the trail stays quiet, and the scale of the landscape is immediate. Before long, we turn uphill and leave the corridor behind.

Each day takes us deeper into Yosemite’s remote northern backcountry. We climb steadily through forest, granite benches, and open terrain, linking high basins, flowing creeks, and alpine lakes. Camps are positioned near reliable water and wide-open views, with optional swim spots, shaded breaks, and exposed ridgelines that define this side of the park. As we approach the Tiltill region, the terrain opens up and the sense of space increases—long sightlines, big skies, and miles of untouched country in every direction.

This is a true wilderness backpacking route. Expect multiple stream crossings, sustained climbing, and real mileage each day. It’s physical, quiet, and intentionally removed from Yosemite’s main corridors. This trip is built for backpackers who want to move through the landscape in a committed way—carrying full packs, traveling point-to-point through complex terrain, and camping where the crowds never reach.

If you’re looking for a meaningful Yosemite experience that trades viewpoints for immersion and trailhead traffic for wild country, this loop delivers exactly that.

Clouds Rest with Half Dome option

Explore the best of Yosemite’s high country on this 4-night, 5-day backpacking trip linking Tuolumne Meadows, Clouds Rest, Half Dome, and Yosemite Valley. We move from the quiet alpine lakes below Sunrise Mountain through panoramic ridgelines and sections of the John Muir Trail, hitting two of the park’s most iconic summits along the way.

With a two-night base camp, we tackle Half Dome with light packs, return to a hot meal, and unwind by the creek. The trip finishes with a classic descent of the Mist Trail, passing Nevada and Vernal Falls before arriving in Yosemite Valley at Happy Isles. Straightforward, efficient travel through some of the most dramatic terrain in the Sierra.

Half Dome permits are subject to availability. We will spend time at Merced Lake and climb another objective with breathtaking views of the valley.
