Alpenglow Client, Evan Miller, sets records on Gasherbrum I & II
During our first expedition to Gasherbrum I, Alpenglow client, Evan Miller, became the youngest American to summit Gasherbrum I, and the youngest American to summit Gasherbrum I & Gasherbrum II within a week!!
“On July 26th, our team of four mountaineers made it to the summit of Gasherbrum I (8,080 m/26,510 ft). Being lead by head guide “Topo” with Sherpa support from Ngima Tenzing and Palden. For our summit bid, we left Camp 2 the night before (July 25th) at 8:30pm and made the summit the following day at 5:59am. Additionally, this was our last chance to summit as the season was coming to an end due to tough weather conditions. This year, Mother Nature gave only a couple weather windows over the course of a month to make the two summits.
Gasherbrum I was a beast of a mountain and one hell of a climb. We persevered through high winds and snow, broke trail on a 60-80 degree slope for 1100 meters and reopened the route to the top. This mountain was tough and required every ounce of strength from each one of us. Climbing rock, snow and ice all the way to the summit at 8,080 meters with unforgiving weather conditions was an incredible challenge. I wouldn’t trade this team for anything and owe them everything for all they did in helping me achieve my goal of summiting two 8,000 meter peaks within one week of each other.
Fun Fact: Gasherbrum I has been summited roughly 380 times. That’s less than the amount of people who have been to space” -Evan Miller
